Improve your vocabulary, feed the hungry
I came across this free rice website today and think it is just awesome. The website has the dual (and totally disparate) goals of providing free English vocabulary to anyone and helping to end world hunger. How to do this at the same time? It’s simple really – just provide a fun little multiple choice game, and for every answer you get right their sponsors donate a small amount of rice to a hungry person through their sister site, poverty.com. I ended up spending about 20 minutes playing the game and found that the words I learned were motive enough for me to return (they also provide a score to rate your vocabulary skill for the competetors in us). I’m hoping to incorporate this into my regular mini-breaks from work throughout the day. As the website says: “Whether you are CEO of a large American corporation or a street child in India, improving your vocabulary can improve your life. It is a great investment in yourself. Perhaps even greater is the investment your donated rice makes in hungry human beings, enabling them to function and be productive. Somewhere in the world, a person is eating rice that you helped provide. Thank you.” Amen.
