About the Position:
Dimagi is seeking an ambitious candidate with a technical and project management background. This position is open to remote employment within South Africa or can be based out of our office in Cape Town. This position will collaborate with team members in the US and may require some of your working hours to overlap with EST working hours.
The work will be challenging, but in the right ways - you'll have an opportunity to quickly dive into and learn from multiple project areas, all while making a real, positive impact. We are looking for a reliable team member who excels in execution and bringing a team together. A person who makes time for project management guidance, people management, and mentoring to improve the team’s effectiveness.
Responsibilities:
As an Associate Engineering Manager you will:
- Manage a team of engineers and technical staff to enable their potential and help shape the growth of the team, while also ensuring timely execution of team deliverables and helping to guide their resourcing
- Work with our Product team and Engineering Manager to help understand the priority of technical asks and drive the engineering roadmap for the assigned areas
- Perform Scrum Master role alongside the Engineering Manager to manage agile sprints, and work with the team to continuously identify and improve processes
- Work with the support team to continuously improve processes in collaboration with other divisions
- Lead management of our third party development partners to implement project features, guiding the technical process and working with the project team from scoping to delivery
- Lead the execution of internal team initiatives around process improvement and team planning
Relevant Skills
At the core of this position, we are looking for smart, capable, and impact-driven individuals. For that reason, please consider the following requirements listed as general “guidelines” vs. strict qualifications:
- 2 to 5 years of experience working on and leading software teams
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Direct people management experience, as well as demonstrated experience leading multi-person technical projects
- Project management experience
- Planning and organizational skills that result in successful implementation and follow-through
- Must be eligible to work in South Africa
Bonus Points:
- Product management or software development experience
- Familiarity with some components of our tech stack (Python, Django, SQL, Javascript/jQuery, HTML5/CSS, Knockout, CouchDB, Postgres)
- Enthusiasm about working in Public Health and International Development

The salary for this position which is affiliated with Dimagi's Cape Town office is 939 370 ZAR annually.
