About the Position

Dimagi’s India Division is seeking a highly skilled and ambitious candidate with a strong technical and project background to support our leadership team in pursuing and supporting the implementation of existing programs and innovation opportunities, leveraging Dimagi’s flagship platform CommCare and exploration of new solutions based on market needs. This position will be based out of our office in New Delhi, India.

Responsibilities

Lead Technical Strategy for the division:

  • Lead technical strategy for the division in consultation with the Managing Director and Chief Technology Officer of Dimagi Inc., taking into account market trends in technology, business development pipeline and division’s goals and priorities
  • Lead market research on the latest technology, competition mapping, synthesize trends to identify growth opportunities in emerging technology areas 
  • Champion adoption of CommCare for advanced use cases and help the division undertake more challenging projects
  • Help the division to balance risk and opportunity in defining technical offerings which combine our mature platform with new technical innovations to expand its reach and impact
  • Facilitate divisional strategy sessions and provide key insights into current technological trends and ways to improve Dimagi’s core platform, CommCare’s product offering in consultation with Dimagi Inc. 

Lead engineering and technical direction for the division

  • Serve as point of contact for India Division for all technical queries related to CommCare, including the clarifications regarding architecture, scaling needs, technical feasibility of complex features 
  • Working with the business development and delivery team to promote understanding of technical capabilities and identify areas of expansion of technical skills and knowledge
  • Work with the delivery team to understand the priority of technical asks and drive the engineering roadmap for addressing the backlog
  • Lead the execution of technical workstreams, including proactively ensuring understanding of technical requirements and timelines, management of technical efforts, and proactive communication of status updates and information gaps

Lead technical skill building and capacity development

  • Create and build an internal team of engineers and technical staff with the right structure and skills to enable the division to meet its goals
  • Backstop technical resources, and focus on continued upskilling to enable the division to meet its targets for business growth and project delivery
  • Coordinate with engineers and requirements owners to manage and be accountable for technical deliverables
  • Lead identification and management of our third-party development partners and external capacity for niche skill sets as may be required for the project or division
  • Provide a signoff on technical estimations and tech proposals requiring engineering support

Relevant Experience

  • 10+ years of experience in a product development organization leading large scale tech deployments projects including at least 5+ years in a technical leadership role with demonstrable outcomes 
  • At least 5 years of experience leading open-source implementation projects, preferably in the public health or social sector 
  • About 4 years of experience in supporting IT infrastructure sizing estimates and capacity planning  
  • Understanding of concepts of load testing, server sizing and load balancing
  • Direct people management experience, as well as demonstrated experience overseeing large technical projects
  • Prior experience with optimization of existing technical architecture
  • Startup experience is a strong plus

Required Knowledge and skills

  • Ability to understand the technical architecture of complex applications and have design discussions with the technical team on ways to optimize the design
  • Solid understanding of estimating hardware and software requirements
  • Able to quickly adopt the use of Dimagi systems and tools e.g. Jira, Asana, Confluence 
  • Experience facilitating and managing engineering teams using sprint / agile / scrum methodologies
  • Prior experience of working with and coordinating an international team of developers and Business Analysts.
  • Expertise in one or more components of our tech stack (Python, Django, SQL, Javascript/jQuery, HTML5/CSS, Knockout, CouchDB, Postgres)
  • Enthusiastic about working in international development and/or technology for social impact
  • Knowledge of government healthcare systems such as Aadhaar, Co-WIIN, etc as well as prior experience of working with Government Stakeholders in a technical capacity is a plus 
  • Experience in Pre-Sales is a strong plus
  • Fluent in oral and written English
