Position Description

Dimagi is seeking a seasoned Tech Lead in India to lead the technology development and maintenance for one of our ground-breaking, large-scale mHealth projects, which is transforming community health systems across the country in partnership with central and state governments. This project is impacting health and nutrition service delivery for millions of underserved people all over the country.

The ideal candidate will have deep technical experience in software development and experience in running a technology team for a large scale project that encompasses software development, infrastructure management, data processing and reporting, and integration with other platforms. This person will focus on leading the technology team to deliver high quality, scalable and performant technology. S/he will work closely with program leaders in uncovering and addressing any technical risks within the project.  S/he will also be involved in external stakeholder communications and must be able to translate technology to a non-technical audience.

Please note that this is fixed-term employment opportunity till Dec 2020, an opportunity to work on the largest mHealth program in the world . Compensation will depend on level of experience and qualifications but will be competitive with local rates. 


  • Lead a technology team of 10+ developers across India, South Africa, and the USA
  • Accountable for technical outputs of a team, providing guidance and expertise to the team while continuously looking for opportunities to improve quality, performance, and software development practices
  • Work with other Technical Leaders to address proximate and systemic challenges as they are identified
  • Support and mentor team members, including by providing an enabling environment for autonomous achievement
  • Communicate and coordinate with other members of project leadership  on the status of the technology platform and identifying and managing technical risk
  • Communicate with non-technical stakeholders on technical requirements and issues
  • Lead technical solutioning on interoperability and engagement with other technical programs
  • Accountable for ensuring compliance with privacy and security practices

Skills & Requirements

  • Eligible for employment in India
  • Bachelor or Masters Degree in engineering or technology
  • At least 10+ years of experience in the technology sector
  • At least 5+ years of full stack development experience
  • At least 3+ years of experience in leading a technology team
  • Comfortable developing enterprise-quality software in a high-level language such as Python or Ruby
  • Familiarity with agile software development practices
  • Familiarity with OSS development
  • Understanding of infrastructure management
  • Fluency in written and spoken English
  • Strong work ethic


  • Experience working with the government of India on large-scale ICT projects is highly preferred
  • Familiarity with any of the following systems:
    • PostgreSQL
    • CouchDB
    • Elasticsearch
    • Redis
    • RabbitMQ
    • Riak
    • Kafka
    • Android
  • Fluency in spoken Hindi
